How-to links on Drupal Doc

I find it helpful when Drupal Doc lists down some howto topics. It shows some links on writing own module starting from the beginner level to more complicated areas.

Guidelines & Steps for installing Drupal

The actual doc can be found from Installation guideline drupal site. It's important to understand and appreciate few steps that need to be done when you're installing Drupal, this includes setting the settings.php file and creating database before you run the Drupal script.

Edited first videoblog attempt

This is my existing videoblog that has been edited using BB Flash with Zooming In and Out to emphasise certain parts of the video.

Direct Link to Login

I think this is a pretty handy link. It applies for the login address just in case if you don't remember the login link or haven't found any link on your drupal site that refers to the login page.

Drupal installation guidelines - reading stuff

I think the 2nd option of using a special package to install drupal with all required other programs such as AMP is a program called Acquia Drupal. This software package actually bundles altogether all D-A-M-P in a single installation program & once you un-compress and installed them, they will configure each program correctly. So, you don't have to figure out line by line for each program to work. The link is here. The drupal doc site does not specifically explain what is meant by using special package, i presume DAMP is an example of this scenario.

Drupal Components

Here is an illustration in a form of mind mapping explaining drupal components.

..

URL aliases and cool module for creating autho path

I watched the video presented in DRupalTherapy by Shawn FL. I found it rather inituitive and right after finishing the movie, i think i have a clearer understanding on how url aliases is all about and as an admin of drupal website how can improve the url not just based on string and number representation but using more user friendly and human readable links.

According to Shawn, we need to have 2 additional modules to be plugged into Drupal besides the core Drupal program; those are the pathauto module and token module. By enabling those modules, we are able to do more cool stuff on the path settings.

..

URL Path in Drupal

i got confused reading about the url path in Drupal, those terms such as aliases, pathauto, mass path & few others. I think it is mostly because i tend to make myself understand based on theoretical understanding without any hands-on. According to Drupal doc site, it is best to avoid using unfriendly url path which contains a node path and some weird strings of numbers as an address, instead it is advisable to use some more human readable such as some piece of content as the address.

Anyway, i found a useful reference called DrupalTherapy.com that explains in basic terms on Drupal path and how it can be improved.

Optimising Search engine by applying CLEAN URLs

this is a-should-read page that contains info on how i can enable the readable and clean URLs. Enabling this function will enhance the search engine optimisation that i've encountered during my experience with Wordpress. I remembered that last time because of me not able to change the wordpress url into a readable ones, i fail to make SEO recognises my website.

Thus this page is definitely a must for me!

Drupal Security reference

Here is a reference from Drupal site that explains on the security aspects. i should read this once i have able to write my own custom module.

For security reason, according to Drupal doc website, it is advisable to permanently disable user/1 which refers to the super user of Drupal user once you've installed it on your site. The user/1 is not necessarily needed to administer the website. Few methods can be done to disallow user/1 such as via MySQL like the followings:

p/s: but i really don't get it here, if you disable user/1, how can you add/update/delete or manage the website without using user/1 role?

Here are some miscellaneous issues which is worthy to read for security and performance reasons.

..

Something distinctive about Drupal as oppose to Wordpress

I come across this comment about the administration pane where in Drupal it states that the user interface for admin is actually the same as the front page where any other users see it. So according to the claimer, it is time saving and removes any ambiguities having different views for actual website and admin panel.

That's interesting!
